Theo Lane writes Rapporly: plain dating advice for guys who would rather send a decent text than memorize a script. Strong opinions on first-date coffee (good), mini golf (overrated) and double texting (once, then let it go).

Hi, I'm Theo

Theo Lane is a pen name. I'd rather you judge the advice than my LinkedIn, and a pen name makes it easier to write plainly about the awkward parts of dating: the text that never got a reply, the no after a date you thought went well, the profile that gets three likes a month.

Rapporly is for guys in the US who use the apps, get a few matches, and then watch the conversation quietly die somewhere around message six. It's also for anyone coming back to dating after a long relationship and finding that the rules changed while they were away. If that sounds familiar, start with what to text after a first date or why you're not getting matches on Hinge.

What I believe about dating

A specific plan beats a clever line. "Want to get tacos Thursday?" does more work than any opener ever written, because it gives her something real to say yes to.

Her no is a complete answer. Every post here that talks about reading interest also covers how to take a no without sulking, arguing or trying again next month. And nothing on this site will help you contact someone who unmatched or blocked you. That one's settled.

Most profile problems are photo problems, most texting problems are "never actually asked her out" problems, and most first-date nerves get smaller the third or fourth time you do it. Confidence is mostly reps.

How the advice gets made

I don't have a psychology degree or a coaching certificate, and I won't pretend otherwise. What I can promise is homework. Posts start from the questions guys actually type into Google. App features get checked against the apps' own help pages and recent news, because they change (Bumble dropped its women-message-first rule in August 2026, and plenty of advice online still hasn't caught up). City guides only list places confirmed open, with price ranges instead of invented exact prices. Example texts get rewritten until they sound like something a person would send at 9 p.m. on a Tuesday.

What you won't find here

Pickup lines, negging, scripts for wearing someone down, or promises that one message will change your life. The goal is simpler: be clear, be kind, be someone she'd enjoy an hour with, and handle whatever answer you get like an adult.

Get in touch

Spotted something out of date, or a bar on one of the city lists that closed? Email hello@rapporly.com and it'll get fixed. I can't give one-on-one advice by email, but the questions people send shape what gets written next.
