Hinge Prompts: The Full List and the Best Ones for Guys
The full list of Hinge prompts by category, checked October 2026, plus which ones work best for guys, which are overused, and when to use voice prompts.

Hinge has roughly 100 written prompts spread across about ten categories: About Me, My Type, Let's Chat About, Date Vibes, Storytime, Self-Care, Getting Personal, Your World, Voice-First and an LGBTQIA+ set. You put three written prompts on your profile and can add a voice prompt, a video prompt and a poll on top. For guys, the prompts that get the most replies are the ones that hand her something to answer: "Together, we could," "Teach me something about," "Do you agree or disagree that," "Try to guess this about me" and "Two truths and a lie." The full list comes first, then my ratings.
Hinge doesn't publish an official prompt list, and it adds, renames and retires prompts every so often. The list below was checked in October 2026 against this March 2026 roundup of every Hinge prompt and Hinge's own feature announcements. If a prompt has vanished from your app, it got cut. If your app has one that's missing here, it's probably new.
This post is the reference list plus which prompts to pick. For finished answers you can adapt, Hinge prompt answers for guys has 50, and funny Hinge prompts for guys covers the jokes.
Every Hinge prompt, by category
A few prompts show up in more than one category. That's Hinge's doing, so they're listed wherever the app puts them.
About Me
- Two truths and a lie
- Fact about me that surprises people
- Believe it or not, I
- I'm convinced that
- Try to guess this about me
- A random fact I love is
- The one thing you should know about me is
- Dating me is like
- My greatest strength
- What if I told you that
- The dorkiest thing about me is
- Unusual skills
- The award I should be nominated for is
- My real-life superpower is
- Something I learned way too recently
- I'm the type of texter who
The biggest category, and the one most guys pull all three prompts from. That's also why "Two truths and a lie" and "Dating me is like" are so crowded.
My Type
- I want someone who
- Something that's non-negotiable for me is
- The hallmark of a good relationship is
- I'll brag about you to my friends if
- The way to win me over is
- I go crazy for
- We'll get along if
- I'm looking for
- I'll fall for you if
- All I ask is that you
- I'm weirdly attracted to
- The key to my heart is
- Green flags I look for
- A boundary of mine is
Handle with care. About half of these ask you to describe what you want from her, and it's very easy to make that read like a job posting with a salary range of "must love dogs."
Let's Chat About
- One thing I'd love to know about you is
- Let's debate about
- I won't shut up about
- I bet you can't
- Change my mind about
- Do you agree or disagree that
- I geek out on
- My most controversial opinion is
- A shower thought I recently had
- Teach me something about
- Let's make sure we're on the same page about
My favorite category for guys. Almost every prompt here ends in a question, a claim or a challenge, which means she doesn't have to invent a reason to comment.
Date Vibes
- Together, we could
- The best way to ask me out is by
- First round is on me if
- This year, I really want to
- My go-to karaoke song is
- After work you can find me
- I'm a regular at
- Give me travel tips for
- On my bucket list
- Before we meet, you should listen to
Underrated. A good answer here quietly plans your first date for you, so when the chat goes well, the invitation is already sitting on your profile.
Storytime
- Best travel story
- Biggest risk I've taken
- Most spontaneous thing I've done
- Never have I ever
- My favorite line from a movie
- If loving this is wrong, I don't want to be right
- A life goal of mine
- I recently discovered that
- Don't hate me if I
Good if you have a short story with a clear ending. Bad if the story needs a paragraph of setup, because you get about two sentences before her thumb moves on.
Self-Care
- To me, relaxation is
- I get myself out of a funk by
- My friends ask me for advice about
- I wind down by
- My simple pleasures
- This week I'm grateful for
- My therapist would say I
- I feel most supported when
Hinge launched this category in 2022 to get people talking about mental health. Most guys skip it entirely, which is a small advantage if you have a real answer.
Your World
- My love language is
- How to pronounce my name
- Typical Sunday
- I'm in my element when
- I could stay up all night talking about
- The secret to getting to know me is
- I'm the same in real life as I am on here because
- We're the same type of weird if
Hinge built this set with psychotherapist Esther Perel and announced it in June 2025. Launch coverage also named "The kindest thing someone has ever done for me," which may or may not be in your version of the app.
Getting Personal
- My most irrational fear
- My love language is
- The hallmark of a good relationship is
- What if I told you that
- Biggest risk I've taken
- My greatest strength
- I'm looking for
- A boundary of mine is
- I feel most supported when
Voice-First
- How to pronounce my name
- My go-to karaoke song is
- Before we meet, you should listen to
- Two truths and a lie
- Best travel story
- Try to guess this about me
- I bet you can't
- The dorkiest thing about me is
These are the prompts Hinge suggests for voice answers. You can type them too.
LGBTQIA+
Hinge also groups a set for LGBTQIA+ daters. It mostly overlaps with prompts above ("Dating me is like," "Together, we could," "Don't hate me if I") and adds "You should not go out with me if."
Which Hinge prompts are best for guys?
My test is simple: can she reply to your answer in under ten seconds without having to come up with a topic? Prompts that end in a question, a claim she can argue with, a guess or a plan pass that test. Prompts that ask you to describe yourself in the abstract mostly fail, unless your answer is unusually specific.
Nobody outside Hinge has clean data on which prompts lead to the most dates. Plenty of blogs quote reply rates with no source, so take the ranking below as my judgment, with reasons.
1. Together, we could
The best prompt on the app for a guy, because the answer can be an actual date. Pick one plan with one place in it.
Together, we could go watch a minor league baseball team, split one questionable stadium hot dog, and leave in the seventh inning to beat the parking lot.
She can say yes, counter with a better plan, or ask which team. All three are a conversation.
2. Teach me something about
It puts her in the expert seat, which most people enjoy. Choose something you're honestly bad at.
Teach me something about houseplants. My fiddle-leaf fig has dropped one leaf a week since July, and I've started taking it personally.
3. Do you agree or disagree that
A harmless claim with a built-in yes-or-no reply. The trick is picking a take that's a little specific and nobody's identity is attached to.
Do you agree or disagree that breakfast for dinner at a diner is the best way to end a bad Tuesday.
4. Try to guess this about me
Same appeal as two truths and a lie, with less competition. Give her clues that are fun to work through.
Try to guess which state I grew up in. Clues: I say "pop," I own two ice scrapers, and I consider 40°F light jacket weather.
5. Two truths and a lie
Still one of the easiest prompts to comment on, which is why so many guys use it. If you go with it, make the lie the most believable line and the truths the strange ones. The answers post has a worked example if you want a template.
6. I'm in my element when
From the newer Your World set, so fewer guys have it. It lets you be sincere without getting heavy, and it shows her what you're like when you're good at something.
I'm in my element when a friend is moving. I bring the dolly, I have a plan for the couch, and the pizza is ordered for 1 p.m.
7. My friends ask me for advice about
It shows what you're good at by showing who trusts you with it, which reads a lot better than listing your strengths.
My friends ask me for advice about used cars. I've talked three people out of the same Jeep on Facebook Marketplace. It's still listed.
8. Before we meet, you should listen to
Works typed and works even better as a voice answer. Name one song, album or podcast episode and give her one sentence on why.
Before we meet, you should listen to "Ventura Highway" by America, windows down. If it does nothing for you, we have something to argue about over drinks.
Prompts that work if your answer is specific
These are fine prompts. They just give her nothing to grab unless you bring a real detail.
- Typical Sunday. Good when the Sunday has a place, a food and a time in it. "Brunch and football" describes half of America.
- A life goal of mine. Better with a number and progress attached.
- My most irrational fear. Popular, so the fear needs to be weird. Spiders won't cut it.
- I'm a regular at. Doubles as a first-date suggestion, which is handy.
- On my bucket list. Skip the Northern Lights (everyone's going). Pick something smaller and nearer, like a specific BBQ joint three hours away.
- Give me travel tips for. A question she can answer in one line, as long as you name a real city and a month.
- I geek out on and I won't shut up about. Great if the topic is niche. "Sports" and "music" are not niche.
- I'm looking for. Keep at least one sincere prompt on your profile, and this is the natural slot. Say what you want plainly, then add one detail about the kind of life you'd share.
Overused Hinge prompts guys should skip
Some of these are fine in theory. In practice they produce the same answer on every profile.
- My most controversial opinion is. Scroll for ten minutes and count how many answers are pineapple on pizza. If you have a fresh take, use "Do you agree or disagree that" instead.
- Dating me is like. A trap for bragging. "Winning the lottery" and "a rollercoaster" both land flat.
- My love language is. Most answers are two words lifted from a book title. She learns almost nothing.
- I'll fall for you if. Someone will write "you trip me." Possibly you, at 1 a.m.
- The key to my heart is. "Honesty and loyalty" is assumed. You don't get credit for listing it.
- I'm the type of texter who. Low stakes, low hook. She'll find out soon enough.
Then there's the demands cluster: "The way to win me over is," "All I ask is that you," "Something that's non-negotiable for me is," "A boundary of mine is" and "You should not go out with me if." Having standards and boundaries is good. Opening your profile with a list of them reads like terms of service she has to accept before saying hi. If one thing is a true dealbreaker (you don't drink, you want kids, you won't relocate), say it once, kindly, inside "I'm looking for" and leave it there.
"My therapist would say I" is a judgment call. Light and self-aware, it works. If it gets heavy or you don't have a therapist, skip it.
Three lineups for three kinds of guy
You get three slots, and the mix matters more than any single answer. Some combinations that hang together:
Say your weekends are mostly outside. Try "Together, we could" with a trail or a lake in it, "Teach me something about" for the thing you're bad at (cooking, probably), and "I'm looking for" kept sincere.
Say you're quieter, and your week is mostly work and a few close friends. "My friends ask me for advice about" shows you're useful and liked without you having to say so. Add "Do you agree or disagree that" for an easy comment, then let a voice prompt do the work that a joke would have done.
Say you're the funny one in your group chat. Use "Try to guess this about me," one prompt from the funny prompts post, and "I'm in my element when" so she sees something besides the bit.
Voice prompts, video prompts and polls
Voice prompts
A voice prompt is a prompt you answer with a recording of up to 30 seconds. Hinge launched them in October 2021 and said at the time that 65% of its users believed hearing someone's voice would help them judge interest in a match.
I'd add one. Most guys don't, and hearing a calm, normal voice before a first date makes meeting a stranger feel a lot less like meeting a stranger. Good prompts for it are "How to pronounce my name" (only if people regularly mangle yours), "My go-to karaoke song is," "Before we meet, you should listen to" and "Try to guess this about me."
Keep it to 10–20 seconds even though you have 30. Record in a quiet room, not your car with the AC blasting. Talk like you're leaving a voicemail for a friend, then listen back once. If you hate the sound of your own voice, so does everybody, and that's not a reason to skip it.
Video prompts
Hinge added video prompts in September 2022. You record a clip of up to 30 seconds inside the app and pair it with a video-specific prompt. At launch those included "Hi from me and my pet," "Can we talk about," "I'm a 10 but" and "Something that's special to me." The set may have changed since.
Optional, and most guys can leave it off. If you try it, show something instead of talking straight into the camera for 30 seconds: your dog losing its mind over a tennis ball, the garden you're weirdly proud of, the view from the trail you run. Good light, phone held steady, nothing you'd be embarrassed to have her mention on a first date.
Prompt polls
Same 2022 update. You pick a poll prompt and write three answers for people to choose from. Launch examples included "Instead of getting drinks, let's," "A dream home must include" and "Pick the best one." Polls are a gift if you hate writing, because voting takes her one tap and gives you an easy opener. Make all three options real date ideas:
Instead of getting drinks, let's: (1) bowl a few frames in shoes that fit nobody, (2) hit two taco trucks and rank them, (3) walk the art fair and pick the worst painting.
Whichever she picks, you already know what you'd do on the date.
FAQ
How many prompts can you have on Hinge?
Three written prompts. On top of those, Hinge's 2022 announcement described adding one voice prompt, one video prompt and one poll, alongside your photos. Check your Edit Profile screen for the current limits, since Hinge adjusts the layout from time to time.
Can you change your Hinge prompts?
Yes, anytime, from Edit Profile, and nothing is permanent. If one prompt goes two weeks without a single comment while the others get some, swap it out. If none of them get comments, the problem is probably your photos, and why you're not getting matches on Hinge covers that.
Does Hinge tell you if a prompt answer is bad?
Sort of. In January 2025 Hinge launched Prompt Feedback, an AI tool that rates your written answers as "Great Answer," "Try a Small Change" or "Go a Little Deeper." It won't write the answer for you. Worth a look, though the bar it's checking is mostly "is this specific enough," which you can check yourself by asking whether a stranger could reply to it.
What if she likes my prompt but doesn't message, or doesn't answer mine?
A like with no comment still means she's interested in matching. Once you match, send one message about something on her profile. What to say to a match on Hinge has openers sorted by prompt.
If you comment on her prompt and she never likes you back, or you match and she doesn't reply, that's her answer. Nobody owes a reply to a comment on a dating app, however good the comment was. Don't send a follow-up asking why, and don't go looking for her somewhere else. Let it go and put that energy into the people who are writing back. More on profiles, photos and the apps themselves is in the dating apps section.
